A QR code, or a camera?
Decide what the room takes home.

One pitch for event headshots puts a QR code on the screen. Each attendee takes a selfie, and an AI image comes back within the hour. Roadie puts a real studio in the hallway instead, and every gallery lands before people leave. Here is what each one gives you, and when the QR code is the better call.

The short version

Both give every attendee a headshot, made in different ways.

The QR-code route is built for reach: anyone with a phone, anywhere, with nothing to set up. Roadie is built for the photo itself: studio light, a real camera and the person in front of it. The right pick depends on where the headshot will be used.

QR code + selfie

An AI likeness, made from a phone.

Attendees scan, take one selfie, and receive a generated headshot. Nothing to ship, nothing on the floor, and remote people use the same link.

Roadie

A studio session, in five minutes.

Attendees step in, follow the screen, and are photographed under multi-source studio lighting. There is no photographer to schedule, one Roadie handles 60 or more people an hour, and the gallery arrives before they leave.

The question to ask

Where will the photo be used?

A chat avatar forgives a lot. A LinkedIn profile, a firm bio or a conference speaker page is where people notice the difference between a photograph and a generated face.

Credit where it’s due

When the QR code is the better pick.

A fair comparison names the cases where the other approach wins. Three of them:

  • Most of the team is remote. If two-thirds of attendees are on a video call, a link reaches them and a studio in the hallway doesn’t. Roadie’s add-on covers remote people, but a mostly remote event is the QR code’s home ground.
  • There is no floor space at all. A ballroom booked wall to wall, or a venue that won’t take freight, leaves nowhere for two cases to open.
  • The photo is only an avatar. If it will live at thumbnail size in a chat app, a generated likeness may be good enough, and it costs less to produce.
FAQ

Questions planners ask.

Is an AI event headshot a photo of me?

No. The service takes your selfie and generates a new image that is meant to look like you. A Roadie headshot is a photograph of you, taken with a studio camera and lighting, then lightly retouched.

What about attendees who join remotely?

Roadie covers the people in the room. For remote participants, the Headshot Lab + StudioGo add-on handles them, and sales sets the tier from your expected head count.

How long does each person take at Roadie?

About five minutes, guided by the screen with no photographer. One Roadie handles 60 or more people an hour.

When do attendees get their photos?

Each attendee’s gallery goes to their inbox before they leave the event.

How much space does Roadie need?

It arrives in two Pelican cases and sets up in about five minutes. Sales confirms the floor space for your venue when you book.

Can we use both?

Yes. Plenty of teams shoot everyone on site with Roadie and add the AI option only for the people who couldn’t make it.

Verdict

Match the method to where the photo goes.

If the headshot is headed for LinkedIn, a firm website or a speaker page, bring Roadie and photograph the people in the room, then cover anyone remote with the add-on. If it’s a chat avatar for a mostly remote team, the QR code will do the job.
